Senate open to Chacha after 2010 - Escudero

MANILA, Philippines - Senators are not 100 percent anti-Charter change, according Sen. Francis Escudero.

Escudero, in a radio interview today, however pointed out that all 23 senators are one in the belief that the House of Representatives and Senate should vote separately on the issue of Constitutional amendments.

"I'm not 100-percent [certain] that all senators are anti-Chacha but we are 100 percent on the participation of the Senate on the issue," said Escudero, chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Amendments, Revision of Codes and Laws in the Senate.

He also advised members of the House who are pushing for a plebiscite to amend the Constitution to heed the opinion of Commission on Elections chairman Jose Melo that there is no time for such an exercise.

Escudero said the Senate is open to Chacha right after the 2010 polls. - By Dennis Carcamo (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)
